Truly Oils

is a two or three day course. A combination of the "alla prima technique" and the "classical oil painting technique", layering and glazing. This was one of the preferred techniques of Peter Paul Rubens.

The basic rules of traditional oil painting ( fat over lean, thick over thin, slow drying over fast) apply and will be explained during the course.

Simply Oils

In 2006 we developed a painting/teaching technique and named Simply Oils, it is a no nonsense alla prima technique, using easy brush strokes to achieve a realistic looking oil painting in just one day.  This we teach by using a low stress method making learning enjoyable and memorable. A positive learning environment makes learning fun.

Alla prima is Italian and literally means "At First" or "Primary", and is known as direct painting, or wet on wet.

This method was created due to the advent of painting outdoors instead of in a studio. Outside, artist did not have time to let each paint layer dry before adding a new layer.
Simply Oils works with any make or brand of oil paint and allows you to paint even on a small budget. After all we believe painting is for everyone.
